Morning glory (Ipomoea species) is a popular, annual, flowering vine that often becomes a serious weed in warm climates. Seeds sprout after the soil warms in late spring, and new seedlings often appear all summer. They are easy to pull or cultivate with a sharp hoe when young, or you can spray them with an organic herbicide containing clove oil. The leaves of Morning Glory are arrowhead shaped and appear alternately on long creeping stems. Field bindweed has an extensive root system which may extend up to 15 feet underground.
